Drop-in Therapeutic Art Sessions

With Covid measures tightening recently, we have postponed our in-person Drop-in Therapeutic Art program. During this time, we are offering one-on-one Therapeutic Art Sessions in which the public may pre-register for 30 minute Zoom sessions with art therapist, Kaitlin McManus. These therapeutic art sessions will be non-directive (meaning you will choose your materials and what you create), and run in a format similar to our regular in-person drop-in sessions. Book a one-on-one online session here.

In-person sessions will be resumed as soon as possible contingent on provincial COVID-19 guidelines. Click here to receive email updates.

Non-directive creation is beneficial for strengthening emotional wellness. These sessions offer the opportunity for you to express your unique creativity with the support of an art therapist, and if you choose, Kaitlin can act as a personal guide to assist you in uncovering and perceiving meaning and personal discoveries found in your artwork and while creating.

Sessions will be open to the general public of all ages (children may need parental assistance when logging on to Zoom). Participants will require a device with a camera and microphone, a Wi-Fi connection and adequate lighting in their personal workspace, in order to access the Zoom sessions. Participants will need to provide their own simple materials such as paper, markers, pencil crayons, oil pastels or other basic writing/ drawing materials that they have on hand.”

COVID safety rules:

  • There will be a maximum of 4 people in the space, with socially distanced tables for artmaking.
  • Participants will each be provided with a personal “grab-bag” of materials to use for the session (pencils, coloured pencils, pastels, charcoal, glue, scissors etc.) when they arrive. Once materials have been used they will be set aside for cleaning and quarantine.
  • Participants will be allowed to stay up to 30 minutes.
  • Contact tracing will be mandatory at sign-in.

Participants:

All ages are welcome. No art experience is necessary! We strive to meet you where you are at by taking an inclusive, non-judgmental and non-directive approach to artmaking – which means that you get to choose the art materials and direction that your artmaking takes. We are mindful of gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, race, spiritual beliefs and family situations. All are welcome and encouraged to attend! Our facilitating art therapist, Kaitlin McManus, promotes mindfulness in creation and displays unconditional positive regard, assisting and guiding you to access self empowerment and compassion for yourself and others in our community.

The sessions run twice weekly: Tuesday evenings from 4:00-7:00 pm and Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:30 am. No appointment is necessary. Please sign in at the desk when you arrive.

If you have any questions, please contact Kaitlin McManus at kaitlin.mcmanus@batemanfoundation.org or (250) 940-3630 x340.
