“How do you recognize a remarkable Canadian treasure like Robert Bateman?” says Sarah Theophilus, Acting General Manager of the Bateman Foundation.

“To celebrate his upcoming 92nd birthday, our goal is to engage people locally and across the nation to celebrate Robert with free admission and activities in the gallery, a birthday card challenge, and a donation drive for the foundation.”

Celebrating Robert Bateman’s Birthday

At the Bateman Gallery

  • The Bateman Gallery will be accessible to all with admission by donation from May 24 to 28. The gallery will be the center of all festivities to celebrate his birthday with free activities and prizes all week long. This will also be the last week of the guest exhibit Environment Impact II and signals the closure of the gallery for three weeks in preparation of a surprise new and exciting Robert Bateman exhibit which is set to open on June 18. More information about the exhibit will be coming soon.

Supporting the legacy of Education

  • The foundation invites the community to support Robert’s legacy of education. Donations will ensure the sustainability of the flagship learning program NatureSketch, doubling the reach and making it accessible to marginalized community groups and schools. The goal is to raise $50,000 before the end of 2022.

Bateman Birthday Card Challenge

  • What’s a birthday without birthday cards? The Bateman Foundation is challenging everyone to create an original birthday card design inspired by the artist and his philosophy. The card designs will be shared with Robert and one will be selected to win a NatureSketch course. Designs can be submitted in person, by social media #BatemanBirthdayCard and by email at [email protected].
